Read the outcome letter closely. It records the ANZSCO code your skills were assessed against and, in most cases, the period of employment recognised as skilled. Both feed directly into the points you can claim, so any mismatch with your intended visa should be resolved before you lodge an expression of interest.
Lodging an expression of interest
An EOI records your claims and places you in the pool for invitation. Accuracy matters more than speed: every claim must be evidenced if you are invited to apply.
- Match occupation and code exactly to the assessment outcome
- Claim only the employment period recognised as skilled
- Keep language test results current and correctly entered
- Update the EOI whenever a factor changes
Nomination strategy
If you are targeting a state or territory nominated pathway, check the current nomination requirements for your occupation in each jurisdiction you are considering, including any residence, employment or commitment conditions attached to the stream.
Avoiding momentum gaps
The most common delays are administrative — an expiring language test, an assessment nearing its validity limit, or references that were never collected while the employer relationship was fresh. Diarise these dates as soon as your assessment is issued.
