Questions about the points test

What is the minimum points score for Australia PR?
You need at least 65 points to submit an Expression of Interest through SkillSelect. Invitation rounds are competitive and often require a higher score depending on your occupation.
How many points does state nomination add?
Subclass 190 state or territory nomination adds 5 points. Subclass 491 regional nomination or eligible family sponsorship adds 15 points — you cannot claim both.
Is there a cap on skilled employment points?
Yes. Australian and overseas skilled employment points are combined and capped at a maximum of 20 points.
Does reaching 65 points guarantee an invitation?
No. Meeting the minimum threshold only allows you to submit an Expression of Interest. Occupation lists, skills assessment, English evidence and invitation ranking all still apply.
